Sault Ste Marie sits between Lake Huron and to the north Lake Superior and aside from being ‘on our way ’ we’d headed there to take the Agawa Canyon Tour Train.
The daylong rail tour leaves the city, along the steelworks and canal and heads into the wilderness. Quite a novelty to be on a different form of transportation for a change and for John to be able to watch the scenery instead of the road.
It weaves through dense forest, past secluded lakes and over ravines to Agawa Canyon where it descends 500ft over 12 miles to reach the Canyon floor.
Once there we all “Detrained” (seriously what kind of a word is that?!?!) and we hiked all 3 of the trails to see the Agawa River, Bridal Veil and Black Beaver Falls.
We also hiked up 350 steps to the Lookout, 77 m up the 175m canyon walls – which despite my aching thighs for the following 48 hours were totally worth it!

Black beaver??!! Ho ho ho :-)) Seriously, it all looks incredible. Have just realised I can subscribe so I can keep track, hurrah! xx
