So we decided as we had 1 night booked there that they wouldn’t refund us for, we may as well head down to Banff. Really glad we did.
Another cloudy day in the mountains – don’t think we have seen sunshine since Monday and we are now on Sunday 17th… But the drive down from Lake Louise to Banff was beautiful.
We had got up and had one last bike ride along the Bow River track. Truly breathtaking looking up at the mountains and across at the turquoise river hurtling past us. William of course took the opportunity to get another injury. This time biking straight into a tree and bruising and grazing his elbow. Incredibly he managed to keep riding but was unable to do much else for the rest of the day. Cried off journal writing, washing up and teeth brushing!
The campground in Banff was half way up Tunnel Mountain which put paid to any ideas we had of cycling down into town. Strange campground designed around winter use I suspect. Basically a series of tarmac roads with numbered benches along the edges with electric hook up. Somehow with this incredible view out of our door this didn’t matter too much!!
We strolled down into town – down being the key part here. Not quite as bad as we had anticipated. Yes, an awful lot of people. But mostly a lot of mountain biking, skater types so fairly laid back.
We had a nice wander through town stopping to get a Cows Ice Cream. Charlie delighted to present his voucher for a free one that he had been given back on PEI in their factory. Was as delicious as we remembered. Only chance for us to get another one will be in Whistler, which we haven’t quite decided on yet….
Charlie finally spent some of his pocket money deciding he now needs a skateboard to keep up with Will. Will unfortunately who is slightly less patient than Charlie had rushed into buying one in week 2 and got a crap one, and so is now not at all impressed that his little brother has a far superior board to him. Oh deep joy!
Treated ourselves to dinner out then worked up a sweat by hiking back UP hill to the campsite as the sun came down.
Torn between staying here or down the road in Canmore and doing more of the mountain thing and heading down into BC. Oh decisions decisions!!

Its a tough life! It all sounds fab – just got back from holiday and realised you had a lovely surprise for your birthday – how fab! Enjoy – it all sounds amazing – loving the pictures! Love to the boys
